The SSI Disability Debit Card is offered to California residents who have been found eligible for benefits. If you apply for benefits and you qualify, the SSI Disability Debit Card is automatically mailed to your address. You can then activate the card for use or you can choose direct deposit transfer options instead of using the card. In order to establish one time and recurring direct deposit options, you will need your card information and your banking information by telephone. You can call the issuing bank, Bank of America, at (866) 656-5913. The EDD does not control direct deposit transfer options.
The decision to offer the SSI Disability Debit Card was made in an effort to reduce government costs. Now less money is spent on paper, printing, and check processing. At the same time, you are able to get access to any benefits you are eligible for in a more expedient manner.
You are not required to have an existing checking or savings account at the Bank of America in order to avail yourself of the card or to make direct deposit transfers. Any payments you get on the card remain on the card indefinitely provided you do not spend them. If you have funds remaining on the card and your card expires, you are immediately sent a new card with a new expiration date. The cards are good for three years.
You are entitled to one SSI Disability Debit Card only. You can get notifications sent to your email box whenever funds are added to the card. This card will be used in the future for any benefits you receive, whether they are SSI, SSD, family medical leave benefits, or disability benefits. If you get benefits, you are not eligible for, you will be responsible for repaying the benefits.

In California, the new Social Security Disability Debit Card has replaced the old way of getting benefits in the form of a paper check. Now, all recipients of disability benefits are getting funds added to a Bank of America debit card. The Social Security Disability Debit Card is branded by Visa®. It is delivered to recipients via the standard mail. Once the card and the welcome packet are received, the recipient has to read over the material and activate the card for use.
The Social Security Disability Debit Card was phased in over several months because the high volume of Social Security benefits distributed to recipients in the state of California. Recipients of disability and family medical leave insurance payments have already gotten their cards delivered. The recipients of unemployment insurance are now starting to get their payments in the form of debit cards too.
After the card has been activated by a user, the Social Security Disability Debit Card works just like any other kind of debit card offering. It can be used to make withdrawals or to spend funds put on the card. However, the card cannot be assigned a joint owner. You can also not add funds to the account associated with the Social Security Disability Debit Card. The only funds that go onto the card are SSI and SSD benefits. To activate the card for use you can visit the Bank of America website or you can call the bank at the following toll free phone number: (866) 692-9374.
When you view your Social Security Disability Debit Card account information online, you can find out about your account balance and when funds have been added to the card. However, you will not be provided with a detailed listing of your transactions. What’s more, the Social Security Disability Debit Card has absolutely no affect on your credit score.

The New Jersey Disability Debit Card is part of a new program; since April of 2011, disability payment recipients have been getting their benefits added to a debit card. The New Jersey Disability Debit Card is offered to those getting unemployment benefits, temporary disability, Family Leave insurance, or to those getting permanent disability payments in New Jersey. The Bank of America has joined forces with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development in order to provide this paper free method of getting benefits.
The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s new debit cards are good for up to a four-year period. So even if you stop getting benefits, hold onto the card: you may be eligible for benefits in the future and the card will still work for you. All cards are sent to the mail to anyone deemed eligible for benefits in the state of New Jersey. It takes about ten days after a decision about eligibly has been made for you to get the card in the mail. If the card is not received you have to call the Bank of America to find out what happened and to get a new card sent; you can do so by calling phone number (866) 213-4074.

The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development can be used at network ATMs, non-network ATMs, points of sale transactions, in stores, on the phone, or online. The card sports a Visa® logo and can be used anywhere Visa® is accepted. You can contact the bank to find out more about card activation, balance inquiries, to locate ATMs, to make a deposit funds transfer, or to replace a stolen or lost card. You also have to call the bank if you ever need to reset your personal identification number.

The California Disability Debit Card replaces paper checks for those getting disability benefits in the state. The California Disability Debit Card is a Visa® issued card and it has recently been sent out to as many as 400000 people. The California Disability Debit Card ensures that recipients get benefits faster, reduces costs of check processing, and makes it easier for the card user to spend funds.
The California Disability Debit Card also allows users to avoid check cashing fees whenever they receive their benefits. Users of the card do not face charges for ATM withdrawals provided they use an in-network machine. In fact, holders of the California Disability Debit Card can make up to two cash withdrawals without having to pay for doing so.
The decision to implement the use of the California Disability Debit Card was an easy one to make for the state since it is anticipated that California can save up to four million dollars each year by not having to have checks printed and mailed. What’s more, the Bank of America, the financial institution offering and controlling the cards, is not charging the state for setting up the new system. Since the Bank of America handles card processing and accounts, any account or card questions should be directed to the Bank of America by calling phone number (866) 692-9374.
Through Bank of America’s customer service option, you can check on the debit card balance, request a new PIN, request a new card, or you can activate the card via the telephone. You also can activate the card online if you have Internet access. If you want to request a direct deposit transfer, you will have to use the phone in options to do so. The customer service line is offered in several languages; you can simply follow the phone prompts for guidance.

The Bank of America Disability Debit Card is issued to you if you have been deemed eligible to receive disability benefits. The Bank of America Disability Debit Card sports a Visa® logo so you can use it to spend the funds put on the card anywhere that Visa® credit cards are accepted. You can also set up direct deposit transfers so that you can electronically transfer funds placed on the Bank of America Disability Debit Card to a savings or personal checking account.
Before you can use the BOA debit card however, you will have to activate the card. You can do this by calling (866) 692-9374 or you can access the online area and activate it right online. If you want to activate direct depositing transfer options, you have to speak with the Bank of America directly. There are some fees associated with the use of the debit card, but you are fully advised of the fees since BOA provides you with a fees schedule when you receive your card. You do not need to have an account with Bank of America to make use of the debit card for disability payments.
With your card, you can get funds added provided you remain eligible for disability. If your card reaches the expiration date and you are still getting benefits, a new card will be sent to you via the mail. Whenever funds are added to the debit card, you are contacted via email to notify you of your new balance. If you do not get your card in the mail, you have to contact the issuing bank to have a new one sent to you; using a debit card to get payments is mandated since paper checks are no longer being offered to eligible disability recipients.

You do not need to have other Bank Of America accounts to receive help from this customer service phone number. So what card services can you receive by calling customer service? They deal all the time with lost and stolen or damaged disability debit cards. They work directly with the California EDD to provide assistance to those on disability benefits who use the debit card. Customer Service can also assist with activation problems, balance information and transfers of your disability SSI benefits from your Visa debit card to your own bank account. If you do not have your California disability debit card number with you just hit zero and wait and a customer service rep will be right with you to assist. Unlike many disability debit cards used in other states, Bank Of America provides customers of the California EDD with a real live customer service representative. You only have to deal with a machine if you prefer. For those in crisis who cannot activate or have lost their card talking to a real human will be a welcome relief. If you want to try and manage your account online you can skip calling the phone number and go direct to the website which is www.bankofamerica.com/eddcard

If you are new to the disability benefits system or have been receiving your disability or SSI benefits by check for a long time you might be hearing about the new disability debit cards that are going out to recipients across the United States. Most popular in California via the EDD system and New Jersey, the disability debit card is a convenient way for benefit recipients to receive and spend their disability payments and a great way for the state and federal government to save a ton of money. Unlike the traditional system of paper checks and direct deposit to bank accounts, with a disability debit card your payment is direct deposited into your Chase or Bank of America debit card account. You can then use the disability Visa debit card at any store that takes Visa and at any ATM (fees may apply). You can also use your debit card at any bank branch to withdraw cash at no charge. Using a debit card is convenient and eliminates the trips to the bank to cash or deposit your disability check. The lack of all this paperwork also makes the SSI system more efficient and cost effective which should keep the disability program healthy in the long run. Lastly like any new way of doing things you may run into trouble or have questions and a customer service rep from Chase or BOA can assist you right over the phone. Just call the customer service phone number at the back of the disability debit card and you can talk to a rep 24×7 or just use the phone system to obtain benefit amount information, set a pin or request a replacement card if yours is lost or stolen.
